Detoxification of the spirit

Detoxification is a process whereby our bodies are cleansed from toxins, waste, and parasites. Some people go on a fasting diet and others use natural medication to clean their colons. Still others include supplements in their normal diet or follow a fruit and herbal diet. Cholesterol, parasites and waste can clog our intestines and blood. We then feel tired, sleep during the day, have headaches, backaches, breathing, and concentration problems, get depression symptoms, and face the risk of heart attacks. We don't have to go through detoxification if we eat right, exercise, and drink a lot of water, but we neglect our bodies to the point that drastic steps are needed.

The same is true in our spiritual life. We watch horror or provocative movies, listen to bad news on the radio, read junk and skip reading the Bible, and don't exercise our faith. Then one morning when we wake up, we realize how sick we have become. Not reading the Bible is the same as skipping meals and starving our bodies. We need Word to live. We need water to clean our bodies. Water make up more than fifty percent of our bodies. The Word of God and prayer are just as essential as water for cleaning and sustaining our spirits. We need nutrients for good health and we need God's Word and communication with God for healthy spirits.

I realized that it was the wrong diet, there was no olive oil or fresh fruit in my diet and all the sodas dehydrated my body. I had food cravings and a few kilos extra in body weight. I started with a process to clean my body. The same is true in my spiritual life. I carried excess weight from last year, became lazy and spiritually ill because I was cut of from my source of energy: Lord Jesus.

Lets get rid of those things in our lives that clog up our communication with God. Throw out those hurts, guilt, and shame. Start with a fresh diet of Word, prayer and exercise those faith muscles. It is difficult in the beginning because some parasites just don't want to let go, but it is wonderful when we get to the stage that we are spiritually, mentally, and physically fit. The most important ingredient is a living relationship with Jesus.
