Chew on His Word

Josh. 1:8 "Constantly remind the people about these laws, and you yourself must think about them every day and every night so that you will be sure to obey all of them. For only then will you succeed."

Psalms 1:2 " But they delight in doing everything God wants them to, and day and night are always meditating on his laws and thinking about ways to follow him more closely."

Psalms 77:12 "Those wonderful deeds are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about them."

What does it mean to meditate on God's Word? It means: to think about the meaning, to stop and ask what does God want me to learn, how to obey Him, how is it applicable in my life?

It became very clear this morning. My husband asked whether I have something to share from what I have read in the Bible this morning. My answer was: " I am still chewing." Some parts or verses are more easily absorbed than others. It is food for the young, easy to chew and swallow, digest and absorb. Other parts call for longer chewing, thinking about the scripture, the meaning and application.

We read and hear the logos word, which becomes a rhema word in our hearts only after it has been properly chewed, digested and absorbed into our blood - our lives. Only then, can change and growth take place, leading us to better understanding and a better quality of life in Jesus. It is therefore important to allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, submitting to His leading.

We cannot just read the Word in a haste, just for the sake of reading it. We'll miss the message time and again. We need to open our hearts and read His Word with anticipation of something that God wants to teach us. We need to think of His promises, commands, and how our minds and actions need to be changed. We need to submit to God to really hear and to receive. This is the chewing and digesting part, acting upon His Word is the absorption where growth takes place. We are then usable for God, He can use us to feed others, to establish growth.

Let us then, read His Word and make the sacrifice needed for change. God also offer a promise for those who meditate and act upon His Word: prosperity and success in Him.
